Car, Truck and Tractor Trailer Accident and Injury Resources

Practice Area photoDecatur Georgia is the county seat of Dekalb County Georgia. It was founded in 1823 at the intersection of two historic Native American trails. The town got its name from naval war hero Stephen Decatur. During the Civil War, General Sherman used Decatur’s strategic location to choke off supplies to the Confederate Army. Decatur's rejection of a railroad terminus resulted in the creation of "Terminus", later renamed "Atlanta." and today Decatur is considered an in town suburb, part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area.

During the latter half of the twentieth century, the metropolitan area of Atlanta expanded into unincorporated Dekalb County, surrounding two sides of the incorporated town of Decatur. In the 1940s and 1950s, many white residents fled the inner city of Atlanta for the distant suburbs. The 1960s and 1970s witnessed drops in Decatur property values. More recently, Decatur enjoyed an economic boom as a result of several long-term downtown development plans. During the past twenty years, Decatur has enjoyed a reputation as a diverse, progressive city with a politically active citizenry. Decatur is home to a vibrant downtown restaurant scene and an eclectic mix of antique stores, night life and contemporary housing.
