Forsyth County, Georgia

Car, Truck and Tractor Trailer Accident and Injury Resources

Forsyth County was created in 1832 from a partition of the Cherokee County territory, which was acquired by Georgia from the Cherokee nation. Forsyth County was named in honor of John Forsyth, who served as Governor of Georgia from 1827-1829. Forsyth also served as Secretary of State under Presidents Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren.

Forsyth County is an exurban part of the metro Atlanta area, and it is home to its county seat of Cumming. The gentrification of Forsyth County began in earnest in the late 1980s. As suburban white flight spread up the renovated State Route 400, taxes in North Fulton County became higher, and residents felt they were getting less and less because most of the tax dollars were being allocated to the city of Atlanta. Many wealthy North Fulton residents moved to Forsyth County. With easy access to Buckhead and downtown Atlanta via Highway 400, Forsyth County boomed. Country clubs and tawny strip malls now dot a landscape that was once a rural farming environment. Once know for racial intolerance, Forsyth County is now known as the richest county in Georgia, and one of the richest counties in the entire United States. Convenient to Atlanta, Lake Lanier and the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains, Forsyth allows for dynamic and varied living choices.

The major highways traversing Forsyth County include the following: U.S. Route 19, State Route 9, State Route 20, State Route 53, State Route 141, State Route 306, State Route 369, State Route 371 and State Route 400.

There are many leisure activities available to Forsyth County residents. Every October, Cumming hosts the Cumming Country Fair and Festival. Lanierland Music Park is a country music venue that has hosted many of the biggest names in the business. For hikers, Sawnee Mountain Preserve is home to several hiking trails, picnic areas and an outdoor amphitheatre.

Because of its proximity to Georgia 400, Forsyth County residents see a large number of tractor trailer accidents and auto accidents. With its interstate layout and accompanying intersections, traffic lights and cross streets, Forsyth County's Georgia 400 corridor can be dangerous. Moreover, its mountain roads are favorites of motorcycle riders and have given rise to hundreds of motorcycle accidents over the years.

Boating accidents on Lake Lanier are another major danger for Forsyth County residents. Boating under the influence of alcohol is unfortunately a major problem.
